Work From Home
The Sims 4 City Living has added the ability for Sims to work from home when joining the Critic, Social Media, or Politics Careers. This allows Sims to have a more active role in gaining career performance without having to send them off to work.
An hour before Sims are required to leave home to go to work, an alarm notification will appear on the lower left hand side of the screen. From there you can choose to “Go to Work”, “Work from Home” or “Take the Day Off”.
When opting to work from home, the game will generate two randomized tasks for the day. Completing those tasks before the next work day will guarantee a performance boost that is added to the payment received at the end of the work day.
Haggling
The Sims 4 City Living adds the ability for Sims to persistently dispute the cost of goods in order to obtain goods at a bargain. Haggling is an interaction that is only available when interacting with vendors at a Food Stall or Street Store Table.
• Heartless Haggler (Embarrassed +2) – Sometimes, the price of trying to lowball is failure. This moodlet results in a 0% discount.
• Heroic Haggler (Confident +1) – It’s not easy convincing someone to take fewer Simoleons for something they’re selling! This moodlet results in a 25% discount.
• Buddy Discount (Confident +2) – If it’s a discount what is wanted, it pays to be known around town. This moodlet results in an “At Cost” discount and requires the “In the Know” reward trait.
Street Performer
When Sims head into the City to explore the world, they are most definitely going to run into the “Living Statue” street performer. Sims have limited interaction with these NPCs, but using the “Tip” interaction will unlock a variety of CAS assets for your Sims to wear.
Once a Sim tips the street performer, they will unlock the street performer outfits and face paint in Create-a-Sim. Sims who wear the entire outfit will be able to head out into the street and “Busk for Tips” to bring in some extra simoleons. Don’t quit your day job though!

Spices
Spices are a type of exclusive swag bought from the Swag Vendors at the Spice Festival. Having these spices in their inventory will reduce the cost of ingredients when Sims cook certain new recipes added to the game. The following spices are available for purchase:
Chili Powder (§5) - Extremely Spicy blend of habanero and jalapeno chilies. Behind the excruciating heat are notes of fruit and nuts. Perfect to spark up a soup, salsa, sauce or rub.
Wasabi (§10) - This green root is grown in mountain streams. Many have gone to great lengths to replicate its hot flavor. Most wasabi products in the stores are fake. Many think wasabi is the nostril burning paste served with sushi, however, almost always it is a concoction of horseradish, mustard, and green coloring.
Curry (§15) - Curry is in fact one of the cheapest spices. Although used in many common dishes it gets compared similarly to saffron for its ability to transform the color of food, the culinary uses of the two spices should not be confused and should never replace saffron in food dishes.
Saffron (§25) - Coming from the dried stigmas, it takes an astounding 75,000 blossoms or 225,000 hand-picked stigmas to make a single pound which explains why it is the world’s most expensive spice. |
Death by Pufferfish
One of the many new recipes available with The Sims 4 City Living is “Pufferfish Nigiri”. This dish can be cooked at home by Sims who have learned the recipe after eating it at food stalls. Any Sims who eat this dish run the risk of Death by Pufferfish. Sims who survive a Pufferfish Nigiri meal will receive the 4-hour “Thrill of Defying Death” confident moodlet, but that doesn’t make them immune to death. Are you willing to play Pufferfish Roulette?
❗ If you own The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack, you’ll be happy to know that the Vampire lifestate is automatically immune to the Pufferfish Death.
Sims who die of pufferfish will appear in the world with a pufferfish floating and swimming around inside of their chest. Need another reason to avoid this dish?

The Sims 4 City Living introduces the all-new Singing Skill. Sims can master the Singing Skill on the Karaoke Machine, the Microphone, Piano, or Guitar, or by clicking on his/her self and then selecting the “Practice Singing” interaction. Snow Globe Collectibles

Haunted Mansion | Common | §10 | While the Haunted Mansion has some similarities to the Goth House in Willow Creek, it's not based on their house. The Goths are actually really sweet and quite alive. Well, until they die. Then the similarities are purely coincidental.
Newcrest | Common | §10 | The Newcrest Snow Globe features the iconic pink willow tree indigenous to this suburban neighborhood. Folks all around town gather under the tree to catch some shade or take pictures with this cotton candy-like vegetation. Except this one is trapped in a miniature sphere. The Newcrest Snow Globe is featured at the Romance Festival.
The City Bridge | Common | §10 | Crossing the bridge to get to the city has never been more miniature! Instead of spending time in the slow, torturous traffic, just dream about it as you gaze into the headlights crossing the bridge. Then promptly smash the little bridge into thousands of pieces.
The Willow Creek Lighthouse | Common | §10 | The Willow Creek Lighthouse has been a beacon for ships passing through transporting goods into the small harbor. While the lighthouse hasn't been lit for 34 years, the light has been captured in this tiny, memorable snow globe.
Tudor House Snow Globe | Common | §10 | The Tudor House represents the charm of Windenburg - quaint, simple living. Living abroad can be quite different from living in the city. Cherish this small memento as the life you wish you had.
Yuma Heights | Common | §10 | A lovely depiction of Yuma Heights in miniature form! Reminisce of simpler times and create new memories as you look fondly at this globe in your collection.
Emily | Uncommon | §15 | Emily has been around for hundreds of years, lurking the waters of Windenburg. She emerges every 52 years to greet the citizens of the city, but she's usually met with fright, horror, and disgust. So she submerges back to the depths of the sea to build up the courage to face those who may one day accept her presence in the land from over the pond. The Emily Snow Globe is featured at the GeekCon.
Freezer Bunny | Uncommon | §15 | Freezer Bunny's are notorious for being cold and cute. This one, trapped in a globe, is no different. It is a snow globe, after all. The Freezer Bunny Snow Globe is featured at the Spice Festival.
Magnolia Steamboat | Uncommon | §15 | The Magnolia Steamboat runs along the river down Magnolia Promenade. The boat stops frequently so Sims can tour the numerous retail shops and take in the scenery.
Stanley the Jackalope | Uncommon | §15 | Stanley the Jackalope is said to watch over Granite Falls. In the still of the night, Stanley would watch over nearby campers, ensuring bears steer clear of Sims enjoying nature's beauty. Well, except for Sims in bear suits. He can't do anything about those nerds, unfortunately.
The City Skyscraper | Uncommon | §15 | The City Skyscraper Snow Globe displays one of the iconic skyscrapers that adorns this city. Its beauty is captured by the radiant lights, illuminating the architecture of Uptown's proud monument. The City Skyscraper Snow Globe is featured at the Humor and Hijinks Festival.
Age of the Dinosaur | Rare | §20 | The Limited Edition Age of the Dinosaur Snow Globe is as rare as finding an actual dinosaur fossil! Depicted here is one of the great beasts in its final moments. Once you grab a hold of this highly collectible globe, don't let it go extinct!
Plumbob (Limited Edition) | Rare | §20 | The Limited Edition Plumbob Snow Globe contains a rare plumbob, forged from the heart of the planet. The green plumbob spiritually represents control over one's Sim-self, fulfillment of one's whims and aspirations. Encapsulated in this beautiful, gold snow globe, this exquisite piece is a keeper for any real collector.
The Reaper (Limited Edition) | Rare | §20 | The Limited Edition Reaper Snow Globe is absolutely to die for. It's so rare, many Sims would kill for it. If you're ever lucky enough to find one, reap the rewards and hold on to this one-of-a-kind collectible!
'Around the Globe' | Plaque | §0 | Awarded to household when completing the 'Snow Globes' Collection. |
City Poster Collectibles
The Sims 4 City Living introduces the brand new “City Posters” collectibles. Posters are found on the back sides of the decorative “Electrical Boxes” found in random areas of the world. Additionally, some of the posters might pop up in random “Boxes o’ Junk” on the streets.

Artwork Adorned | Plaque | §0 | Awarded to household when completing the 'City Posters' Collection. |
Careers
The Sims 4 City Living introduces three brand new careers to the game: Politics, Social Media, and Critic. When choosing any of these three careers, Sims will have the option to work at home or at the office. Detailed info for each career is available below.
Political Career
The Politician Career is one of three brand new careers in City Living. All promotions and branches require a Confident mood, and the only skill needed is Charisma, making it fairly straightforward career. The very first level requires that your Sim choose one of five causes to support (Foundation of Less Mischief, World United, No Sim Left Behind, Speak for the Trees or Simoleons for Everyone) by clicking on your Sim and choosing from the Political Career option. The Daily Task for first four levels is promoting the cause you’ve chosen, which is a friendly interaction under a new Political Career option. It’s very easy to fulfill, although some Sims may reject the interaction.
Suggested Aspirations: Friend of the World and Fabulously Wealthy
Suggested Traits: Ambitious (Politician Branch), Self-Assured, and Outgoing
Ideal Mood: Confident
At Level 1, Sims gain the ability to Protest after they choose a cause, which can be started anywhere by clicking the ground. Sims can gain a Confident moodlet when their protest is noticed and Sims join it, or they can gain a Sad moodlet when ignored.
At Level 2, Sims gain the “Check Cause Progress” interaction with the computer, which shows how many Sims have joined the cause; it is much more relevant to the Charity Organizer branch as it disappears with the Politician Branch; Sims also gain the a “Debate Politics” interactions, which become more relevant at Level 5. At Level 4, Sims gain the “Give Expert Speech” option at podiums, which can give a Confident moodlet when done. These interactions can be a task needed for promotion when working from home.
When your Sim reaches Level 5, you can choose between the Politician Branch or the Charity Organizer Branch. Both play very similarly, requiring that your Sims appeal to others, which can provide a challenge as Sims now come with new political views. Your Sim can either Debate Politics from the Right or Debate Politics from the Left, and the first one you choose determines your views. Switching between these views while talking to a Sim may cause an Embarrassed moodlet. Flip-flopping isn’t the best way to get Sims on your side.
Unruly Activist (Level 1) | Sun, Mon, Wed, Thur, Sat (8am-3pm) | Choose a Cause to Support | None
Campaign Intern (Level 2) | Sun, Mon, Wed, Thur, Sat (8am-3pm) | Level 2 Charisma Successfully Promote a Cause | §172 Bonus, Debate Politics Interaction
Social Justice Worker (Level 3) | Sun, Mon, Wed, Thur, Sat (8am-3pm) | Level 3 Charisma Successfully Promote a Cause | §275 Bonus, Check Cause Progress (Computer), New CAS Items
Community Organizer (Level 4) | Sun, Mon, Wed, Thur, Sat (8am-3pm) | Level 4 Charisma Successfully Promote a Cause | §413 Bonus, Give Expert Speech (Podium) |
The Politician Branch requires that your Sim Secure Votes for promotion. Although the Daily Task will always include securing votes, they only need 20 votes in total to reach Level 10. They can secure votes more than once with any Sim, ages Teen and up. It’s much easier to secure votes with Sims that have the same political view as your Sim, but with a high enough Charisma skill and a Confident mood, they can occasionally convince a Sim of the opposite view. The easiest way to secure votes to first debate and then use the Promote Policies interaction before asking for votes.
Politician Branch
Civil Servant (Level 5) | Mon-Fri (8am-4pm) | Level 5 Charisma Secure 2 Votes | §518 Bonus, Promote Policies, Secure Vote, Make Empty Promises, and Ask for Small/Large Bribe Interactions
Public Official (Level 6) | Mon-Fri (8am-4pm) | Level 6 Charisma Secure 3 Votes | §1,555 Bonus, New CAS Items
Councilperson (Level 7) | Mon-Fri (8am-4pm) | Level 7 Charisma Secure 5 Votes | §2,177 Bonus, Square Office Pre-Made Room, Kiss Baby Interaction
Representative (Level 8) | Mon-Fri (8am-4pm) | Level 8 Charisma Secure 10 Votes | §3,049 Bonus
Elder Stateperson (Level 9) | Mon-Fri (8am-4pm) | Level 10 Charisma Secure 20 votes | §4,268 Bonus, New CAS Items
National Leader (Level 10) | Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri (8am-3pm) | Secure Votes | §5,548 Bonus, Stately Chic Pre-Made Room |
The Charity Organizer Branch is the more challenging and least rewarding of the two (if you don’t consider make a difference rewarding, that is). Sims may reject higher donation requests and your Sim’s schedule doesn’t have consecutive days, which can make promotions harder to get; the bonuses are also pitiful in comparison to the Politician Branch and at the Level 10, you make less money per day and only work 3 days per week compare to 4. However, just as with votes in the Politician Branch, while your Sim will always have a Daily Task requiring you get donations, your Sim only needs to raise a maximum of $20,000 to reach Level 10. And, again, just as with votes, you can ask ages Teen and up for donations.
Charity Organizer Branch

Social Media Career
The Social Media Career is interesting, although it can be tedious. Your Sims’ promotion through both the Public Relations and Internet Personality branches require they gain followers on their social media profile, which can be tricky to raise as each attempt can either raise significantly, slightly, not at all, lose some or lose a lot of followers. The branch splits early at Level 4.
Suggested Aspirations: Friend of the World, Chief of Mischief (Internet Personality), and Joke Star (Internet Personality)
Suggested Traits: Genius, Outgoing, Geek (Both) and Goofball, Mean, Hot-Headed, Childish, Self-Assured (Internet Personality)
Ideal Mood: Playful (Levels 1-3 and Internet Personality), Focused (Public Relations)
Media Intern (Level 1) | Mon-Fri (9am-3pm) | Create Social Media Profile, Update Social Media Status | None
Engagement Monkey (Level 2) | Mon-Fri ( 9am-3pm) | Have 25 Followers, Level 2 Charisma, Update Social Media Status | §141 Bonus, Check-in at Venue
Clickbait Writer (Level 3) | Mon-Fri (9am-3pm) | Have 100 Followers, Level 3 Comedy or Mischief, Update Social Media Status | §183 Bonus, Respond to Mail, Share Image |
The Public Relations Branch is the easier of the two, requiring just 10,000 followers, max Charisma and a Focused mood to make it to Level 10. The days are consistent and the hours long enough that your Sims can get promoted at a decent rate. The branch’s Daily Task is to Network with Journalists, which can either give your Sim no followers or around 150 followers, and can be done multiple times with no cool down. When your Sim first enters the branch at Level 4, they gain the ability to Represent Friend, which can help friendly Sims get a performance boost; this is later updated at Level 10 with Represent Anyone which can be performed on any Sim your Sim knows to help boost their work performance.
As for the work from home interactions, they usually involve emails, representing friends or talking to coworkers. All in all, it’s a fairly simple and easy going career choice. It’s also the most profitable of all the careers provided in City Living. (Public Relations earns round $12,684 per week.)

The Internet Personality Branch is likely the most difficult and involved career path in the expansion. It’s suggested you max out your Sim’s Charisma before jumping into this branch. While the branch doesn’t need it at max (it only requires Level 7), your Sim will need to get 25 million followers to reach Level 10 of the career; in order to get 25 million followers before your Sim keels over from old age, they will need to go far and beyond the Daily Tasks, using the higher level social media unlocks Charisma provides, such as Upload Viral Videos, which can get over a million followers in one go. Your Sim should be updating as much as they possibly can to get as many followers as possible. During the lower levels of the Charisma skill, make sure your Sim uses the Status Update From Venue and its better equivalences when your Sim is out and about, as they will give you a good amount of followers, no matter how high or low the Charisma skill is.
Many of the interactions needed to gain followers, along with the Ideal Mood, are best performed when they are Playful; however, as your Sim progresses through the career, they will unlock options that require Confident, Focused and Angry moods to perform well. For instance, once they reach Level 5, they can Record Rants which often gain tens of thousands of followers when your Sim does it while Angry, but may lose many followers if they are not Angry. (So, while not the fastest way to get followers, you can make your Sims career based on getting mad, as some internet stars are want to do in real life.)
The working from home portion requires that your Sim go out and do a variety of socials with Sims, from telling jokes, pranking them or even being mean. There’s also updating statuses at venues or doing specific posts. It’s suggested you work from home as often as possible so you can raise your followers faster.
What makes this career rather frustrating, is hours and cash. Starting at Level 7, your Sim will be working just twelve hours a week, and at max level making just slightly over §500 Simoleons per hour. (The only other top career that makes less cash is the Charity Organizer career.) If your Sim wants to live solely on the Internet Personality career, they will need to take Sponsors, which will always lose followers.

Myshuno Meadows History Plaque
This Park was once the estate of scientist and herring baron Barnabas Skye. After his mansion was gutted by fire, the fish mogul gifted his extensive gardens to the people on the proviso that his personal Observatory remain standing and free of use to any budding astronomer living in the city. To this day the telescope is maintained and updated by the Barnabassian Scientific Society.
DynaSign Co. Plaque
Raised in memory of the Open Street Act, legislation which allowed communities of all cultures to organize celebrations in the streets. The progressive vision of our founding fathers has allowed generations of residents enjoy the many delights that ‘Festival City’ has to offer. (Plaque donated by DynaSign Co. ‘If it’s in the streets, it’s on our Signs’ (TM))
Herring Monument Plaque
This Plaque was erected to mark 150 years of fishery in our fine city. From the humble kedgeree peddlers of the gold rush era to the mighty height of the Canning Industry, the noble Spangled Herring (Clupea Pallasii Fabulousa) has been the slippery, silvery key to the fortunes of this city. As we step into a bold new century, let us not forget the bounty of the sea, nor the piscine origins of our metropolis.
Disaster Memorial Plaque
Sims 4 City Living Free Code
This plaque commemorates the Shirt Factory Meteor Strike And Subsequent Big Lizard Incident that razed the Fashion District to ash. Like a phoenix reborn, the District has risen from this disaster to become an exemplar of regeneration, with award winning modern architecture and a vibrant festival scene.
Llama Freedom Movement Plaque
On this spot the Llama Freedom Movement was born. A simple protest, known as the Llamoid Sit-In, shocked the public with its extreme use of acoustic guitars, hair flowers and slightly tuneless singing. Though many years have passed since that day, the spirit of activism remains alive and well, and will continue until all Llamas are free to strut and spit and neck wrestle to their heart’s content. (Plaque paid for by the Llamean Popular People’s Front)
Monument to ‘Emperor’ Horton
This monument marks the spot where noted eccentric ‘Emperor’ Horton experienced the cities’ first Death by Pufferfish. (Plaque donated by Stove Makers Against Sushi Association)

Apartments
New with The Sims 4 City Living is the ability to move into and live in apartments. Unlike other lots in the game, Apartment buildings cannot be built independently. Instead, you are able to alter the apartment within the outer shell with the build/buy tools.
Selecting an apartment on the world map will bring up a view of the apartment building floor where 2-3 apartments are visible. Selecting each section will reveal the deposit/rent as well as more information about the lot. When moving into an apartment, your Sim will need to pay the initial deposit to move in. After that, rent will be due weekly.
The common area contains four pertinent objects to apartment living: A bulletin board, an elevator, mailboxes, and the trash chute. You will be able to see neighbor Sims come into the common area and shift through their mail, take their trash out, or walk to the elevator.
Bulletin Board – The bulletin board is mostly used as a way to know which festival is about to take place. You can also leave a Passive-Aggressive Note or an Affirming Note based on your Sims’ mood. Reading these notes will give your Sim a moodlet depending on the type.
Noisy Neighbors – Sometimes, a neighbor will be a bit noisy. Heart or music icons will indicate where the sound is coming from. Sims will obtain negative moodlets for noisy neighbors and will be able to either use the “Pound on Door” or “Knock Politely” interactions on their doors. Once your Sims’ neighbor comes out, you can interact with them as you would any other Sim, and ask them to keep it down.
Note: Sometimes a neighbor will not hear your knock on their door.
Lot Traits – Some apartments have lot traits that you are unable to change. This is because some shells have objects (or pests) in them that require specific traits. The “Needs TLC” lot trait includes electric boxes and pipes that will short circuit and leak respectively. Needless to say, this will cause your Sims to feel very negatively. They can either attempt to fix the object themselves or use the Complain to Landlord interaction.
Landlords – Your Sims’ relationship with the landlord directly influences if the Landlord will fix the broken objects in your apartment. They can sometimes outright refuse to help, leaving your Sims to fix it themselves.
Rent – Rent is due on a weekly basis, and rent amounts vary depending on the apartment. If Sims fail to pay their weekly rent, they will have each of their utilities turned off one by one until they pay. Rent can be paid on the computer, cell phone, or mailbox.
Pests/Filth – Some of the lower end and cheap apartments will also include special pests like cockroaches and mice, and sludge filth that leaks through the sewers. Pests will give Sims a series of moodlets as they try to fend off the heebie geebies. Sims can take things into their own hands and use the “Obliterate” and “Exonerate” interactions against these pests in an attempt to deter them, or call the landlord to rid them for you. Additionally, Sims can clean up the sludge with a mop.
Give/Revoke Apartment Key – When Sims establish a good relationship with other Sims, they can hand over an Apartment Key. This allows friends to come and go as they please.
Additionally, once a key is given, the option to Revoke the key becomes available. Sims who hand out multiple keys will experience Pop Ins, Game Nights, and Hangouts.
Penthouses
The Sims 4 City Living adds the ability to build Penthouses on the top of certain Skyscraper buildings. All three penthouse lots are the epitome of a penultimate lifestyle. They are placed atop decorative buildings that do not have any limitations beyond their lot size, so you can use them for residential and commercial venues. When building Penthouse Lots you will need to place the “Elevator” objects for Sims to travel up and down the building.
Fountainview Penthouse (Residential, 30×20, §83,188) – Boasting some of the finest views in the Arts Quarter, this penthouse is prime real estate indeed.Includes the Great Soil and Natural Light Lot Traits.

Festivals are chosen at random, so repeat festivals will not happen within the same week. Festivals have the following dedicated day and time slot:
- The Flea Market (Sundays 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
- Humor and Hijinx (Mondays 5 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)

To see when the next festival is going to take place, you can use the “Read About Festival” interaction on the bulletin boards in apartments, or read about the festival on dynamic signs located around San Myshuno. The informational pop-up for each festival will let you know what activities, competitions, and schedules are relevant for each festival.
When the festival begins, an identifying jingle will accompany a pop-up notification letting you know the festival is about to begin. When the festival is active, the notification will also allow Sims to teleport to the festival if they are in a different neighborhood.

Festivals include exclusive Swag Stalls that allow Sims to purchase exclusive, festival-only items. Items that are available at festival swag stalls include the following:
- T-Shirt
- Bubble Bottle

Haggling can also have the opposite effect, and result in embarrassing moodlet and zero discount. The following interactions are available at the Flea Market Festival:
Trading – This is the perfect chance for trading off duplicates of extra inventory items. During the Flea Market, Sims can use the “Ask to Trade Collectibles” interaction to select any qualifying object in your inventory. - Crystal
- Fossil
- Frogs
- Metal
- My Sim Trophies

Sometimes the vendor will not be in the mood to trade. Your Sim can improve the relationship with the vendor and change their mood to increase the chances of successfully trading with a vendor. During the Flea Market festival, your Sims are also able to sell their own inventory objects.
Note: The Flea Market does not have a swag vendor, but does have some food carts.
